Confucius said, do what you love you will never work a day in your life. We’ve all heard this many times and while it’s a wonderful thought I don’t believe its all that true. I say that because I know from experience that all jobs done well are simply hard work, that’s exactly what makes them stand out amongst all the jobs that are accomplished in mediocrity safely inside our comfort zone. Most of us at TQR, have been in the staffing business for a decade or more, we’ve seen a lot of different types of jobs at all levels of an organization, and as far as we can tell there is no such thing as a dream job. Here lies the irony of it all. If its easy to do, it won’t be fulfilling, if its difficult to do it will be painful and as humans we spend a lot of our time and energy avoiding pain. While this is smart the majority of the time, i.e. running from a hungry lion, its not always the right thing to do. You decide every moment of every day in each task you perform whether or not you want it easy or whether or not you want fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment by challenging and stretching yourself and simply doing your best and demanding more from yourself.

Real achievement comes from going beyond what you thought you could do and becoming more today than you were yesterday, even if its just a little more. This is not about failure and achievement, its about stepping outside of your comfort zone and becoming the best you can be – that’s the reality that you create, but it will be hard work.
