About the Role

The Assistant Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of production and packaging on a per-shift basis.

Key Activities

  • Motivates production staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and assessing performance; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Manages to metrics and KPIs as detailed in the scorecard.

  • Holds self and team accountable for results.

  • Hold the team accountable for performance, quality, and adherence to cGMPs.

  • Maintains safety, food safety, quality, and service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.

  • Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process, observing equipment and control points, monitoring personnel and resources, and facilitating corrections to malfunctions.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed and delivering results.

  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; and recommending action.

  • Develop and maintain training programs including the design and implementation of the training matrix, writing and development of SOPs, and hands-on training of employees.

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced understanding of HACCP / HARPC (CCPs) and SQF. Extensive understanding of Critical Quality Points (CQPs).

  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement/LEAN/Six Sigma principles.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in management, biology, chemistry, food science, engineering, or similar field is preferred

  • Experience in a food, beverage, and/or pharmaceutical facility is preferred.

  • Five years’ supervisor and/or leadership experience required.

  • Familiarity with high-speed processing, packaging, batch tracking, and quality assurance/quality control.
