About the Role
The Production Manager will be responsible for managing a team of 20-30 associates who operate our grinders, mixers, stuffers, cookhouses, drying rooms and packaging lines.
Key Activities
Direct the operation of the facility to meet all of the quality, food safety, and customer requirements in the most safe, cost-effective, and timely manner by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Develop and implement plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees to increase plant productivity while maintaining optimal safe working conditions.
Develop and implement reporting methods and systems to evaluate and control the attainment of planned objectives.
Review production costs and product quality, modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance the profitable operation of the facility.
Develop and implement training programs and plans to upgrade employee skills and cross-train for career development.
Provide direction, development and leadership to production supervisors
Monitor plant departmental activities and assist with problems as necessary to meet planned production schedules and ensure product quality.
Review operational issues with involved departments to resolve problems or implement changes.
Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases to improve production operations or working conditions.
Assist in the development of a capital budget plan to meet the needs of the facility and corporate strategic objectives. Report progress of capital projects to budget every month or as requested.
Communicate Safety, Quality, and Food Safety policies to all employees. Ensures such policies are applied by all employees.
Implement, support, and maintain quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
Incorporate and support GMPs and plant cleanliness among plant personnel. Implement and monitor overall production performance and quality standards and ensure objectives are established, documented, monitored, and reviewed. Ensure non-conformities identified in quality programs are addressed and corrected.
Manage subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Production and Sanitation areas. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with mechanical functions of all machines/equipment.
Personal computer skills to include spreadsheet software and word processing software (MS Word & Excel).
Education and Experience
4 Year college degree in business administration, food science, business management, industrial management, and/or engineering.
Must have 5-10 years of experience in a food manufacturing background preferably with meats.
Strong knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning the operations, e.g. OSHA, FDA, HAACP, as well as good manufacturing practices for food processing facilities
